The LEADER programme closed in December 2013, by which time approximately £2.2 million of LEADER funds had been invested in over 90 separate local community projects in the East Peak area (between 2009 and 2013). The East Peak LEADER programme operated with funds from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development from the European Union and from the UK government through Defra. The East Peak Innovation Partnership has also received financial support for projects from other sources such as English Heritage, the Heritage Lottery Fund and from Kirklees Council, Sheffield City Council and Barnsley MBC.
Two projects submitted by the Denby Dale Walkers Are Welcome group, have recently been approved to receive funding.
Bolsterstone and Worral Male Voice Choirs have come together in the Come & Sing project to recruit new members rather than compete for members.
Bradfield Parish Council hold a large archive of historical documents dating back to the 1700s which were available for public viewing by visiting the council offices.
The intention of the Beacons project is to eret a series of 3-4 metre high Beacons and spectator areas, information and interpretation boards in visible spots across the EPIP area.
Penistone FM was the first project to be supported under the East Peak LEADER programme. Capital funding was awarded for transmission and broadcasting equipment and studio set up costs.
Stocksbridge Advice Centre have received support from EPIP to develop a rural advice service in Stocksbridge, Penistone, Kirkburton and Denby Dale.
