Dry Stone Walling Conservation & Restoration within the East Peak
Yorkshire and Derbyshire have over 80% of the dry stone walls in the country. With regular maintenance a dry stone wall can last for over 100 years. The craft of dry stone walling is a well recognised professional and voluntary activity in this area.
This project, which was awarded £21,200, aims to work with community groups, volunteers and school groups to provide:
· dry stone walling workshops,
· introductory / taster sessions
· provision of commercial courses to encourage out of area trainees
· support for community dry stone walling projects
· progressive training to LANTRA qualification standard
· support through contacts with local businesses, support groups and Dry Stone Walling Association jobs opportunities.
The project will run over 2 years and hopes to create 10 full time and10 part time job opportunities for new dry stone wallers.
