Bradfield Parish Council hold a large archive of historical documents dating back to the 1700's which were available for public viewing by visiting the council offices. With a grant from EPIP, Bradfield had these records digitised and they are now available to view online which enables anyone, anywhere in the world, to search the archive and view the records. This is also a means of preserving the original documents which are very fragile.
The digitisation was recently completed and the website has been launched. See www.bradfieldarchives.co.uk.
A further 3 projects have now been selected for digitisation and these are currently underway. These are a textile archive from Skelmanthorpe which is not currently available for public viewing, Penistone archives which are only currently available for public viewing for 2 hours per week and a set of pictures featuring farms and farmers from around the Denby Dale area.
After digitisation, these records will be available via DVD and hopefully as a future link from the EPIP website.
The Skelmanthorpe Textile archive will have its own website and future plans include adding audio content to this.
